About Alexis

Alexis Hoag-Fordjour offers a compelling and unique voice on America’s criminal legal system, race, and civil rights. With over a decade of litigation experience, first as a federal public defender and then as senior counsel for the NAACP Legal Defense & Educational Fund, Hoag-Fordjour provides a fresh and dynamic perspective on the nation’s most pertinent issues. Hoag-Fordjour is a member of the faculty at Brooklyn Law School where the students named her Faculty Member of the Year in 2022.  Hoag-Fordjour offers courses in evidence, criminal procedure, and abolition. Prior to Brooklyn Law, she served as the inaugural practitioner-in-residence at Columbia University’s Eric H. Holder Initiative for Civil & Political Rights, and as a lecturer at Columbia Law School. 

An on-air contributor at CBS News, Hoag-Fordjour leverages her expert legal knowledge inside courtrooms and classrooms to provide credible and illuminating analysis. In addition to CBS News, Hoag has appeared in print and on-air for various outlets in the United States and abroad, including CBS This Morning with Gayle King, CNN New Day with John Berman & Brianna Keilar, CNN Newsroom with Victor Blackwell & Alisyn Camerota, NPR with Brian Lehrer, MSNBC Weekends with Alex Witt, The Cross Connection with Tiffany Cross on MSNBC, BBC News, Al Jazeera, and Korean Broadcasting System (KBS). She has appeared on dozens of panels across the United States, and in Nepal with support from the Soros Open Society Justice Initiative. Hoag-Fordjour has provided keynote remarks, and spoken at law schools, bar associations, corporate meetings, and civil rights organizations. She is a graduate of Yale University and NYU School of Law.
